Christmas time is everyone’s favourite time of the year. Children especially love Christmas which is why it is important they don’t have to miss out on tasty Christmas treats just because they have braces.
We’ve pooled together some great Christmas recipes that are safe for those with braces.
Don’t forget to always brush your teeth and clean your braces after eating to avoid unsightly stains or decay.
Five Ingredient Ice Cream
Serves 12
- ½ cup cold milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1x 400ml can sweetened, condensed milk
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups heavy cream
In a medium bowl, stir together cold milk, vanilla, condensed milk and salt. Set aside. In a large bowl, beat heavy cream with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Fold milk mixture into whipped cream. Pour into shallow 500ml dish, cover and freeze for 4 hours, stirring once after 2 hours or when edges start to harden. Serve or store in an airtight container up to 10 days.
Crustless Quiche
Serves 6-8
Never again will the task of making piecrust stop you from enjoying classic quiche. This super quick recipe combines just six ingredients all mixed together, yet it produces a beautifully sliceable egg and cheese quiche. Pre-shredded cheese and a packaged biscuit mix make it extra easy but very light.
- 3 eggs
- ½ cup packaged biscuit mix (or make your own—see *recipe below)
- 3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 ½ cups milk
- 1 ½ cups shredded mild Cheddar cheese
- 1 cup diced ham
Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Grease or spray a 10” pie pan or quiche dish. In a large bowl, with a whisk, beat the eggs, biscuit mix, vegetable oil and milk. Pour mixture into pan; it will be lumpy. Sprinkle on the cheese and ham. Bake for 50 minutes at 180 degrees. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting.
A nice variation substitutes Swiss cheese for the cheddar and 200g or bacon bits for the ham. Both versions freeze well.
Make Your Own Biscuit Mix

- 1/2 cup non-fat dry powdered milk
- 2 Tablespoons baking powder

Watermelon Sorbet
- ¾ cup water
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- 2 to 3 cups watermelon, diced, no seeds or rind
In a small saucepan, heat the water, sugar, and lime juice on medium high for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Chill this “syrup” at least 20 minutes. In the meantime, place the watermelon chunks in a food processor or blender and liquefy them. Add the chilled syrup to the watermelon puree and blend. Freeze sorbet in an ice-cream maker according the manufacturer’s directions. Serve immediately.
