What happens when treatment is complete
Once your teeth are in their ideal positions and spacing and overcrowding has been corrected, you may believe that your treatment is complete. However, many people do not account for the final step of treatment: retainers. When undergoing Invisalign treatment, you will be required to wear your aligner for about 22 hours a day, and once teeth have the tendency to shift, we do not want all of your hard work to come undone!
When your teeth move into their new positions, parts of your jawbone will still be soft, leaving your teeth vulnerable to shifting back into their old places. Your jaws will need to harden and solidify with your teeth in their new positions to ensure that you can maintain your results. This is where retainers come in.
Retainers are an essential part of every Invisalign treatment. Without them, months and even years of dental work could go out the window. Several types of retainers are available, some of which are permanent and others removable. Chat to your orthodontist about the type of retainer that will be used and for how long you will be wearing it.
